Suarez, Sahin and Allen star as Liverpool finally kick-starts its season
The Reds bagged their first win of the new campaign with a 5-2 victory at Norwich, with Everton trio Jelavic, Baines and Jagielka also featuring as the Toffees stay second
Liverpool trio Luis Suarez, Nuri Sahin and Joe Allen lead the way in our TOTW, after Brendan Rodgers’ side bagged its first victory of the season with a 5-2 away win at Norwich.
Suarez stole the show, scoring his second hat trick in as many games at Carrow Road, and he is joined in this week’s XI by midfield duo Sahin and Allen.
The on-loan Real Madrid man grabbed his third goal in two games for the Reds, while the 22-year-old Welsh international was once again instrumental to Liverpool’s build-up play.
Merseyside rival Everton continued its emphatic start to the new campaign, and Phil Jagielka, Leighton Baines and Nikica Jelavic all make the cut following a 3-1 win over Southampton which sees the Toffees remain second in the table.
Leading the pack at this early stage of the season is Chelsea, and Spanish attacker Juan Mata is included in our TOTW for the second time this season after scoring the winner in the Blues’ 2-1 victory at Arsenal on Saturday.
Jan Vertonghen also racks up his second appearance this year, with the Belgian helping Tottenham to three points away to Manchester United as well as scoring the first goal in a 3-2 thriller at Old Trafford.
Stoke double-goalscorer Peter Crouch makes the cut for the first time this season after steering his side to a 2-0 win over Swansea. West Brom midfielder James Morrison also features, with Newcastle goalkeeper Steve Harper rounding off our TOTW.
Strikers Demba Ba and Pavel Pogrebnyak are both unfortunate to miss out, while Jobi McAnuff also impressed in Reading’s 2-2 draw with the Magpies this weekend.
